BAU 2023 is dedicating a separate exhibition area to digital transformation. In Hall C5, companies will present hardware and software solutions for planning and execution - such as BIM-related time management and cost control tools. In Forum C2, experts from planning and engineering offices report on current project examples. Serial construction in particular benefits from the broader application of BIM.

So far, according to the trade fair organizer, there has been awareness of the potential of digital instruments, but implementation often fails due to a lack of knowledge. One reason for this is that builders rarely ask for digital solutions. The new BIM portal of the federal government, which was launched on October 11, 2022, is intended to remedy the situation. It provides information, applications and uniform data to advance the digitization of construction projects. These include interactive and web-based tools, data libraries and manufacturer-neutral component information. The platform is to be continuously developed.

Digital tools are not only used in planning, but also on construction sites. The underlying technology for this is the Internet of Things (IoT). It networks devices and construction vehicles and enables their interaction and autonomous operation. This also applies to robots, which are increasingly doing support work on construction sites, which is becoming increasingly important in view of the shortage of skilled workers. Added to this are AI and machine learning.
